repentance and conversion do not merit God’s grace. The deliverance of the remnant is an act of divine grace. Still, as King points out, “A faithful remnant community is characterized by certain qualities. For instance, the remnant people in Zephaniah are fully committed to the Lord and are righteous and ethical in their social interaction.”33 Furthermore, although a faithful remnant community owes its status to the reception of God’s grace and mercy, it is not an unconditional status. Human action
